Danish Ruby Jubilee - Gala Banquet: HRH The Crown Princess of Denmark

Rubies for the Ruby Jubilee from Mary tonight -- this is, of course, the Ruby Parure Tiara that Queen Ingrid left to Crown Prince Frederik.  Love seeing the whole set together, and love this hairstyle with the tiara.

So this raises a question -- why was this the only ruby tiara worn to the gala banquet this evening?  It's true that Queen Margrethe doesn't have a ruby tiara (this is the only major one in the Danish collection, I believe -- hey, wouldn't this have been a great occasion for Daisy to get a new ruby piece?).  But no Edward VII Ruby on Silvia?  No Ruby Olive Wreath on Anne-Marie?  Surely if there's an occasion to bust out the rubies, a Ruby Jubilee is it!

This one is wonderful on HRH CP Mary. And I was hoping for a bigger ruby showing from everyone.
Ella - I was hoping for a ruby tiara theme too. Does anyone know why? Since the Queen wasn't wearing rubies, is there some ancient protocol that dictates that any lesser royal should not upstage the Queen? It IS after all Daisy's day?? And then... if you are the Crown Princess maybe you can get away with it. Perhaps I'm reading too much into the whole thing.
Regardless I am completely loving all the tiaras and different events the Danes are having. Thanks Ella for all the work you've done on these. WOW! You've tripled the January pictures in just one day. Congratulations!!

The emphasis on rubies seems to be an English/American phenomenon. The ruby word has probably been mentioned in Danish media, but this was mainly called and referred to as a 40th jubilee.

Dazzling, simply dazzling. Mary looks wonderful in this set. I'm looking forward to seeing what a famed Danish designer does with the Queen's Greenland gold. This tiara is quite extraordinary.

Oh, and Mary has probably gone for rubies because Australians will link the stone to a 40th anniversary.

It would have been a lovely gesture for Mary and the Queen to do a one-night-only tiara swap. Perhaps the rubies for the floral wreath tiara (which isn't perhaps as historical/restricted a piece as the Pearls or Emeralds). But at the end of the day everyone looked great and I'm just glad that they let us see all of these historical pieces worn rather than just displayed in museums or behind closed doors.

I think Mary's looking much nicer in this tiara since it has been downsized, and I'm loving that she can place the left-over pieces into her hair for added decoration. She had the three pieces spread over the back of her hair for this function and it looked brilliant.

I'm really glad she wore the necklace too. I've been missing it!
