    Standard outing for Beatrix. As for Máxima, the color is gorgeous on her, but the floral/veil detailing is just absurd! You can see the back of the hat (which looks somewhat pillbox-like) and I think the shape had potential. Oh Máxima, what is with the schizophrenic hattery outings lately?

    Max's hat is just plain, well... weird. it looks like a bridesmaid's wreath, and really odd on her. I do not get it at all.

    My wish for Queen Bea for 2012 is that she decides to stop wearing so many daft prints and flounces (I mean, look at those sleeves). Then maybe she will realise that she's been wearing the same damn hat for eons! There must be more than one hatmaker in Holland ...

    As for Max, well, I didn't mind the front view, a bit OTT (a bit too high), but this is a Crown Princess who wear plastic earrings on duty so, meh.

    But then I saw the back view and realised all that trimming was only at the front, nothing to balance it. Good Lord. No, no and no.

    A bad day for Dutch milliners.

    You know, if Max had turned this upside down, with the pillbox shape on top and the roses along the back, I would like it a lot more. As is, just too much "crazy aunt meets 40s bridesmaid."

    Cardigans and floral hats; Max is obviously very nostalgic for the 1950s. And what's with Bea and her cake pan with handle attached? I'm with JamesB - not getting it at all.
