Dickens Museum: HRH The Duchess of Cornwall

Hatters, today is one of those days when I really resent that I'm not royal.  Today, I went to work.  Today, Charles and Camilla went to the Dickens Museum to celebrate the author's 200th birthday by leafing through one of his own annotated first editions with Lady Dedlock/Miss Havisham/Dana Scully.  SIGH.

Besides, if I were the royal attending this occasion, I would have chosen a hat that was not a) a Paddington, because Mr. Dickens really deserves better, and b) not one that I wore less than two weeks ago (or not even a fortnight ago, as Mr. D himself might have said).

BLAH.  Don't mind me, I'll just be over here sulking into my cheap paperback copy of Our Mutual Friend, imagining what kind of Victorian-y hattery I would have selected for this jaunt.  (This one?  This one?  Or, to continue the Havisham theme, maybe even this one?)  ANYWAY.

At least it looks better on her than the other picture. Still not a fan though.

Unfortunately, the question begs to be asked....
Did Camilla dress to match the draperies....
or were the draperies coordinated based on advance warnings about the Duchess' ensemble?
Have to say Charles looks ghastly in this photo.

While not ignoring the hat, I just want to say how much I laughed, uncontrollably, at your very funny note. The vision of you sulking into a battered copy of Our Murual Friend is... Dickensian! Thank you - for everything!

Forget the hat--she wore the same outfit! You can see it better in photos from the church service at Westminister Abbey. (Okay, she changed the brooch.) She and the Princess Royal must have some sort of competition going as to who can wear the fewest number of different outfits to public engagements in any given calendar year. Really, it's the only excuse I can think of.

Actually, I think this number from Remembrance Day would have looked suitable for the occasion and I'm sure Miss Havesham would have approved:

I really do despair with Camilla. When she goes structured and suited she looks great. And then she goes bag lady. Hmph. The colour of the coat is lovely, but the shape does nothing for her, and the hat - well the Paddingtons have to go.

Patricia I'm feeling a Tale of Two Cities, French Revolution vibe from that hat.

All I can say is Bah Humbug

This was such a let down from Camilla, I was hoping she'd do full out victorian for the Charles Dickens' double centenary but I suppose this hattery outing can be summed up as follows

"it was the best of times, it was the worst of times" and Cammy leaves us all wanting more.

That's a hat you could find at any mid-level department store in the US.

I suffer from a cold head too and sometimes the weather and other conditions just call for a warm hat like this. Perhaps Camilla could get her milliner to work up a few more warm toppers for these cold days. It's the repetition that offended me on this occasion rather than the hat.
