Hattery News: Anniversary and Changes

Posted on May 21st, 2012 by Ella  |  4 Comments »

Liz Windsor isn't the only person celebrating an anniversary, hatters -- May marks the fourth anniversary of our blog, too!  Hooray!  Can you believe it's been four years since Princess Bea's butterfly hat inspired a blog that has spanned more than a thousand posts?

It's been a great ride, and I hope it will continue to be, but four years in, I feel the need to tweak things a bit to keep this project manageable and fun for me and all of you, too.  So from here on, I'm going to make a couple of changes:

  • I won't be attempting to blog about every hat that a royal woman wears any more.  I get many e-mails from readers who want to be helpful in making the catalogue of hats here complete, but that has proven to be an overwhelming task.  This blog is supposed to be about ridiculous hats, and those are the ones I will feature, along with others that I find to be striking and appealing.  (And tiaras, of course, to satisfy my inner magpie.)  I'll make the choices -- you all can just sit back and wait for truly mad hattery to appear before you.
  • I will be covering large hattery events in single posts, as I've just done for the Diamond Jubilee Muster -- you can read that post below this one.  I'll announce which events I will be covering in the sidebar on the right.  (The next one will be tomorrow's royal christening in Sweden -- I'll also be live tweeting that event at @royaltywithella.)  Sometimes it takes me a few days to write these posts, but they will be completed.  Readers who want to link to hats before they're posted here should hop over to RWEK Discussion, which include open posts for linking and discussing royal events.

I'm hoping these small changes will help keep the blog a place that I can maintain as a hobby rather than a second full-time job -- and I hope it will also help keep the content fresher and more interesting.  Thank you all for reading and commenting for these past four years -- here's to many more!

It's two years running for HM and hair nets at the Chelsea Flower Show.  If Kate is the patron saint of the young career woman, HM is totally repping for the fashion-conscious lunch ladies of the world.

Hattery Event: The Diamond Jubilee Armed Forces Parade and Muster

So, One's armed forces decided to throw One a bit of a party in honor of one's sixty years on the throne...

Fondant fish scales for a military event?  Why not!  Lesson of the year: if you're the Diamond Queen, you do what you want.

Queen's Gardens, Bromley: HM The Queen

Ducking out of hiatus briefly to note that it was super nice of HM to honor couples celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary by plopping a big wedding cake on top of her noggin.  Cheers, Lil!
