Now here’s the stylish Marie we all knew was lurking under some of those funny hats! I’m not entirely sure, but I think this might be a repeat of this hat, worn last year on the royal yacht.
Loved it then; and I love this one now! So chic!

Now, now, Marie, don’t glare at me like that. I actually think that (from what I can see, anyway) that this dress is really nice. And you’ve got Old Trusty on, so that’s good, too. An updo would be nice, but overall, not bad. Really not bad!
(Seriously, though, if they’re going to ask you to keep coming to so many official formal events, we do need to get someone to lend you another lovely tiara. It’s time.)
Oh, Marie … as per usual, I am torn about her choice of chapeau. I want to like her hats, I really do! And yet…
Overall, I like the hat, the jacket, and the hair this time … but somehow, I don’t like them together. I think, with a softer dress and her hair back in a knot, this would have been magnificent. As it is, I’m afraid I’m rather ambivalent.
Poor Marie — first she has to wear the same tiara over and over and over again, and then, when she finally gets to switch to a different hat, it’s a racing helmet. Sometimes you just can’t win.

Oh, Marie … she tries, doesn’t she? But this is just so ’80s … if she were to break out in a Debbie Gibson song right at this very moment, I can’t say I’d be surprised. Better luck next time?
Tiara Alert … hm. I was hoping that maybe, just maybe, someone would let Marie sneak into the royal vaults in Denmark and borrow a new tiara to wear, just for tonight, but sadly, it appears to be second verse, same as the first. Marie’s wearing the Diamond Floral Tiara she sported at her wedding (and at the banquet dinner earlier this week, and everywhere else).
I have to say that I’m also not a big fan of the dress she chose for the event; if the last gala gown was too mature for Marie, this one edges toward the other end of the spectrum. It’s a little too much like lingerie, IMO. I know, I know. I’m impossible to please. Sigh.
Anyway, all crabbing aside, I have a more pressing question: who let Marie bring a toy soldier with her to the theater?
Let the fancy birthday festivities for Queen Margrethe begin! The Danish royals gathered at Christiansborg Palace for a banquet dinner in honor of HM’s big 70th birthday, and the tiaras were out in full force!
Princess Marie, predictably, wore her wedding tiara — it’s really the only tiara she has available to wear, but it’s a darn good one, isn’t it? Really one of my favorites in the whole Danish tiara array.
The dress, though, looks like the gown that Meryl Streep wore to this year’s Golden Globes. Works on a stately actress like Meryl — not so much on a youthful princess like Marie. Lose the sleeves, Your Royal Highness!
Princess Marie of Denmark is accompanying her husband, Prince Joachim, on an official visit to Mexico this week — and when you’re in Mexico, it would be a shame not to head out to see some of their super-cool ancient cities, wouldn’t it? Ergo, this visit to the archaeological site of Teotihuacan.
I think Marie’s chosen just the right kind of hat for this occasion. She’s outside, it’s fairly casual — she’s wearing blue jeans — and the whole group is sightseeing in a sunny, dusty place. I think it’s great that she chose something that still has an elegant shape, but is perfectly utilitarian for keeping the sun off her princess-ly face. She looks both chic and comfortable. Bravo, Marie!
