Funeral of Carlos Hugo of Bourbon-Parma: HRH Princess Mabel of Orange-Nassau

Queen Beatrix’s other daughters-in-law also attended Carlos Hugo’s funeral — Laurentien unfortunately went sans hat (boo!), but Mabel chose a headband.  But … a green, fish-scales headband for a funeral?  Well, it is still dark — and it’s not half a headband and half pinstriped trousers, so I suppose we’re good.

Funeral of Carlos Hugo of Bourbon-Parma: HRH Princess Máxima

Posted on August 28th, 2010 by Ella  |  6 Comments »

Today was the funeral service for Prince Carlos Hugo of Bourbon-Parma, the Duke of Parma and Piacenza and a claimant of the Spanish throne.  Notably, he was also the former husband of Princess Irene of The Netherlands, younger sister of Queen Beatrix — and the Dutch royals were all out in force for the service.

Except Cake — she sent along her deputies, Alex and Máx.  Love Máxima’s delicate veil — she’s still a Catholic despite marrying into a Protestant royal family, so she surely has the 411 on headcoverings for funeral masses.

The lace is just gorgeous:

Very regal, Máx … between this and the tiara inventiveness, she’s got the makings of a fabulous queen consort!

Alice Ferguson’s Wedding: Sarah, Duchess of York, HRH Princess Eugenie of York, and HRH Princess Beatrice of York

Either the Yorks forgot they were going to Fergie’s little sister’s wedding and not a fancy dress party, or they’re actually planning on starting some sort of Girls Aloud-style girl group:

Let’s see here … Bea’s wearing her Trooping the Colour ’10 plant sprouter; Eugenie’s sporting some foliage in her favorite color, hot pink; and Sarah’s wearing (among other things) a fascinator that looks suspiciously like the one Bea wore to Charles and Camilla’s wedding.

Just … may I have a word, Sarah?  You are fifty years old.  That’s 50, not 20 or 30 or even 40.  You look like you’re trying to be 23 again, and it’s just no good.  Now, I know you’ve had issues with decision making in the past, but for the love of God, get something age appropriate and stop sneaking into your daughter’s closets!  It just makes you look older and sadder, not younger and more vibrant.  Say it with me: elegant and chic!

I mean, even Eugenie and Beatrice look terrified in this picture.  I’m going to assume it’s because someone just popped up a mirror.  Oy vey.

Am I going totally nuts, or did Cams nick Princess Michael’s feather Elvis pompadour hat?  The horror!

Prince Nikolaos’s Wedding: HRH Princess Nikolaos of Greece and Denmark

We’ve officially got a new princess in our midst, hatters!

She started the day as a “Miss,” and now she’s a “Royal Highness” — and every HRH needs a tiara, right?  For her big day, Tatiana’s new mother-in-law, Queen Anne-Marie, lent her the Antique Corsage Tiara.  We’ve seen this tiara several times on the blog — lately it’s been worn by Princess Theodora, but it was also the tiara worn by Marie-Chantal on her wedding day.  For a refresher on the history of this impressive piece of jewelry refashioning, head over here!

While glancing through photos though, I noticed that there was something strange about the tiara in some of the pictures — it looks like there’s fabric stuck behind it.  Compare with this picture from earlier in the day (when she was still just plain Tatiana Blatnik):

Nothing behind the tiara there, right?

But then I realized: it’s not fabric, it’s rose petals that were showered on the newlyweds!  A few must have gotten stuck behind the tiara.  You can see them here:

Aww!  (The veil looks great, too, BTW — love how it coordinated with the little lace bolero she wore to cover her shoulders in the cathedral.)  Congratulations, Nikolaos and Tatiana!

Live Post: Prince Nikolaos’s Royal Wedding!

Posted on August 25th, 2010 by Ella  |  206 Comments »

Welcome to the …

…in honor of the wedding of HRH Prince Nikolaos of Greece and Denmark and Tatiana Blatnik!

The wedding will begin at 7:30 PM (local Greek time), or 5:30 PM in Britain and 12:30 PM on the US east coast.

As we don’t currently have a video link, I won’t be updating this as a rolling post, but rather joining all of you to share links and reactions in the comments.  Fingers crossed for some hattery — at the very least a beautiful tiara for the beautiful bride, who will soon be HRH Princess Nikolaos of Greece and Denmark!

ETA: Hooray!  A live stream!  Grainy, but it works! (Well, for a few seconds anyway … will post another link if I find one!)

Cathedral of Ayios Nikolaos: HM Queen Anne-Marie of Greece

The leopard print hat band rides again!  Constantine and Anne-Marie were out this morning in Spetses, apparently making a last-minute check at the cathedral (and avoiding the super-excited Greek press — check out the mike on the right, LOL!).  Let’s just hope this isn’t the only hattery we’re getting today!

Putting up the royal wedding live post ASAP — get excited! :)

Hattery News: The Latest Royal Wedding Details!

Posted on August 23rd, 2010 by Ella  |  22 Comments »

We’re getting close, ladies and gents — just about T-minus two days until Prince Nikolaos and Tatiana Blatnik get hitched in Greece!  The church where they will marry in Spetses is pictured above … very picturesque, non?

In the meantime, we’ve got some new details on the wedding itself.  The ceremony will reportedly begin at 7:30 PM local time on Wednesday, which translates to 12:30 PM Eastern Time in the US and 5:30 PM in the UK.  A lunchtime wedding for the US and an early dinnertime wedding for the Brits — how lovely!

However, since this is the wedding of a member of a non-reigning royal family, we won’t be getting the kind of video coverage we got for Daniel and Victoria’s wedding — we’ll mostly be relying on photos, unless news of a streaming video option crops up (so far, no go there).  Even so, I’ll be opening a Royal Wedding Live Post on Wednesday so we can all chat about the attire of the guests — hopefully hats, but with an evening wedding, we can’t be sure.  (And I very very very much doubt tiaras will be in order, except for the bride.)

But there will definitely be royal guests!  Here’s who’s supposed to be attending so far:

Denmark: Queen Margrethe, Crown Princess Mary, Prince Joachim, and Princess Marie
Greece: King Constantine, Queen Anne-Marie, Princess Alexia (and family), Crown Prince Pavlos (and family), Prince Nikolaos (we hope!), Princess Theodora, Prince Philippos, and Princess Irene
Jordan: Queen Noor (not sure if this has been confirmed)
Spain: Queen Sofia, Prince Felipe, Princess Letizia, Infanta Elena, Infanta Cristina, and Iñaki Urdangarin
Sweden: Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, Prince Carl Philip, and Princess Madeleine

Bernadotte Anniversary Concert: HRH The Crown Princess of Sweden

Reason #4586942 to love Victoria: she gave us a hattery two-fer on her first day back from her honeymoon!  For the evening concert portion of the Bernadotte celebrations, she put a rose in her hair:

Love the rose, but I could do without the baby’s breath surrounding it — it makes it look a little too much like an ’80s prom corsage.

Regardless, I am so happy to have these two back!  And we won’t have to wait long for another appearance — word on the street is that they’re going to the royal wedding on Wednesday!  Yay!

Does EuroDisney have an Epcot Center?  Because this seriously looks like something Sil could have picked up at a gift shop there.
