Church of Our Lady of Laeken: HRH Princess Marie-Esméralda

It is really, really, really, really, really tough to see, but I think perhaps Esméralda convinced Princess Claire to loan her one of her little whimsical fascinator headbands?

(Wherever this little headband came from, it's a massive improvement over last year's look!)

Church of Our Lady of Laeken: HRH Princess Maria-Esméralda

Look out, it's a brand-new princess for the blog!  This is Princess Maria-Esméralda, the youngest child of the late King Leopold III of Belgium and his second wife, Princess Lilian -- making her the half-sister of the current king and the full sister of Prince Alexandre, one of the members of the family who is being remembered at today's memorial mass.

Maria-Esméralda doesn't undertake royal duties; she is a journalist, writing under the name Esméralda de Réthy, who lives in London with her husband and her children.  It's great to see her out with the family for an event like this one, though.  I do think she might have gone a little too traditional with her hat choice, though; rather than reading "appropriate for a royal memorial mass," it goes a little over the edge into "costume" and makes her look a tad matronly.
