I had messages from several of you wondering if Mary's tiara at this event was new -- it's actually the second outing for the pearl setting of her Wedding Tiara.  (Here's the previous time it was worn with pearls; it's positioned much better on her head this time.)

I do like the way that the pearls are picking up on the golden color of her jacket this time around, and I'm really pleased that she's continuing to be inventive with her tiaras ... but I still don't like it.  I think they're pretty much going to have to dismantle this one to gain my approval.  (Because they really care about that, LOL!)

Rubies for the Ruby Jubilee from Mary tonight -- this is, of course, the Ruby Parure Tiara that Queen Ingrid left to Crown Prince Frederik.  Love seeing the whole set together, and love this hairstyle with the tiara.

So this raises a question -- why was this the only ruby tiara worn to the gala banquet this evening?  It's true that Queen Margrethe doesn't have a ruby tiara (this is the only major one in the Danish collection, I believe -- hey, wouldn't this have been a great occasion for Daisy to get a new ruby piece?).  But no Edward VII Ruby on Silvia?  No Ruby Olive Wreath on Anne-Marie?  Surely if there's an occasion to bust out the rubies, a Ruby Jubilee is it!

Another tall hat for Mary -- I tend to like these sometimes, but this one's just a bit too tall and too blue for me.  Thoughts?

Surely the ruby parure is on reserve for tomorrow night -- but I really, really wish we'd seen Mary in the Midnight Tiara with this gown rather than in her wedding tiara.  I know my feelings on this piece are well-documented, but really, it's just not a tiara for a crown princess, is it?

Our other royal hatter-in-residence at today's Jubilee event is the always-lovely CP Mary, in a hat we last saw on the blog during Margrethe's 70th birthday celebrations in 2010.  (In fact, I believe we've got a repeat of the entire outfit, even down to the jewelry.)  But I don't mind -- out of all of Mary's tall-crown hats, I think this one might be my favorite.

No Marie at these events, sadly -- but she gets a pass, because she's about to give Daisy the best Jubilee gift of all, an eighth grandchild!  I've got my fingers crossed for another little Danish princess...

One New Year's resolution off my list: the Tiara-Pedia has finally been updated!  Each tiara that has appeared on the blog is listed with a short description and a link to each post in which it has been featured.  Go crazy, tiara lovers!

The Ruby Parure Tiara is my favorite of Mary's tiaras, hands down, but it looks like she's definitely done some serious downsizing on the piece, enough to provide an extra ornament for her hair...

Love her hairstyle here and the tiara's placement, but I think I ultimately preferred the fuller version.  What about the rest of you?

Mary and Fred are on an official visit Down Under this week, and I'm loving the return to summery hats for the Southern Hemisphere!  Now this is a properly glamorous chapeau...

And also on display in Sydney today?  BABIES!

Yet another royal rite of passage for Kate Cambridge -- the regal hard hat!  She and William joined the lovely Mary and Fred in Denmark today to highlight the continuing problems with famine in Africa.  Love when a hattery moment can help remind us of what's really important...
