I feel like lately Sophie's been veering wildly between hats that are a little on the young side and hats that are way over on the matronly side ... and this looks like the latter to me.  It's just a little too classic, maybe?

Oh, dear ... Sophie, while you continue to be gorgeous-er and gorgeous-er every time you show up on this blog, really.  REALLY.  For ceremonies at the Cenotaph, a hat you wore to a wedding in Monaco?  A hat about which I used the word "wacky" last time you wore it?

No.  Just ... no.  I don't care if it's gray.  When they relocate the Cenotaph to the Vegas strip, maybe.  But not a minute before.

Our Soph is really on a roll lately, isn't she?  This is just the right balance of "I'm a guest at this wedding and the bride's aunt, so I need to look good, but you shouldn't really be looking at me" and "I'm a royal British countess, okay? WE WEAR AWESOME HATS."  Not loving the headband anchor of this one, but that's a minor qualm.  I mean, LOOK:

So chic it hurts. Thumbs up, Lady Wessex!

Another outing for the Wessex Wedding Tiara -- Sophie looks great, but I'm a little bothered about the visibility of the base of the tiara with this hairdo.  This seems to be a common problem with this particular tiara.  Maybe it needs to be lowered?

I am in love with this.  Boring color, but BAM -- surprise feather undergrowth!  If you're going to go neutral, go wacky neutral, I say!

I LOVE THIS.  And not just in an "it's okay because it's Ascot" kind of way -- I genuinely adore this hat.  Love the bright blue, love the peacock feathers, love the jaunty tilt, love everything.  Bravo, Soph!

Check it out, ladies and gents -- it's one of the original forehead monsters!  And it's still awful!  But Sophie's finally smiling, God bless 'er, which certainly improves the whole thing.
