"GASP! Ladies, have you SEEN the amount of plumage in this castle today???"
bringing you the very best in ridiculous royal hats

"GASP! Ladies, have you SEEN the amount of plumage in this castle today???"
St. Paul's was simply lousy with royals today! Let's get this Jubilee party started, hatters!

Time to have a boat parade in the freezing cold rain, everybody! Good thing the ladies brought their hats along...

HM and Kate teamed up again today for a visit to various sites in Leicester to kick off the Queen's Diamond Jubilee tour of the nation. (Prince Phil was on the team, too, but for some reason I can't even fathom, the photographers didn't pay him too much attention today, ha. Bet he LOVED it!)
HM's wearing a repehat today, last seen when she held court in a courtroom a year ago. But Kate brought out a new topper just for us!

And I, for one, absolutely love it! I mean, you all know how I feel about a structured beret! Something about this '40s retro chic look really works on Kate. I even love the little monochrome felt flower. (If you want to rate her entire outfit, head over here to Cambridge Chic!)

Yet another of these Queen Alexandra-style chapeaux from Kate this Christmas -- I still don't like it, sorry, everybody. But this one in particular is really different from various angles. Behold:

Unflattering angle.

More flattering angle.

Most flattering angle of all. Still just not a huge fan, though.

*deep breath*
I hate to throw shade at someone on her first Remembrance Sunday outing, but I can't help it. I hate this. I seriously, legitimately hate this hat. Why is it smaller than a real hat but bigger than a fascinator? Why is it perched so weirdly? What's with the huge-non bow? And why does the whole thing make me think of cavaliers, musketeers, and the English Civil War?
Sigh. Better luck next time, Katie C.

Yet another royal rite of passage for Kate Cambridge -- the regal hard hat! She and William joined the lovely Mary and Fred in Denmark today to highlight the continuing problems with famine in Africa. Love when a hattery moment can help remind us of what's really important...

Start your engines, hatters -- Katie Cambridge is out and about again, going red at yet another friend's wedding. At first glance I thought she'd recycled her maple leaf fascinator (well, yesterday was the first day of autumn, after all), but no, this one's quite different.
Eh, overall, I'm a little underwhelmed. Fascinators like these are a dime a dozen at a British wedding. Thoughts?

Learned something new this week -- apparently Chuck 'n Cams aren't the only royals who use their Scottish titles in Scotland. Who knew? So, for those who recoil at Kate's Duchess title: today, for a few Scottish hours, you get a Countess. Enjoy!
As for the hat: so far, I think everyone but me loves this. Let's face it, kids: it's a potato chip. A floral potato chip, but a potato chip nonetheless. (Pardon me, Brits: a potato crisp.) Insert "bet you can't eat just one" or "once you pop, you can't stop" jokes here!
And now I'm hungry.
