Sonja wore perhaps my second-least favorite of the Norwegian tiaras tonight -- I know others are fond of this one -- Empress Joséphine's Emerald Tiara -- but to me, this picture shows especially well how (pardon me) ridiculous the settings of the gems are in this piece.  The stones are huge and impressive, true, but it's just not elegant.  I don't know.  Those of you who love it -- tell us why!

The Diamond Daisy Tiara for Queen Daisy's jubilee ... a nice tribute, but I can't help but wish we'd seen something else on M-M.  This tiara is an absolute workhorse, and it deserves a break!

It's back-of-the-head hat time with Mette-Marit again ... I'm really starting to dislike these, probably mostly because she wears them so often.  Time for a new trend?

Love the full version of Queen Maud's Pearl Tiara (version 2.0) on Sonja here -- the tiara hair is just top notch.  Brava!

Wow, that's a lot of gold brocade.  I'm just going to leave it at that.

Also -- I think that's Marie-Chantal in the uber-dramatic purple chapeau behind Sonja.  Haven't seen a clearer angle on that one yet, but I like what I see.  (Watch it not even be her, LOL.)

I love CP M-M's Nordic cool and her black/cream ensembles ... but this really isn't a hat.  It isn't even a fascinator.  I'm a bit disappointed.  (Even though I do like the lacey-ness of the whole thing.)

I mean, you've got to step it up when the Peace Prize recipients are rockin' this level of hattery:

Happy birthday to the maddest of the Norwegian royal hatters, Princess Märtha Louise!  Here she's pictured attending the wedding of Prince Joachim and Princess Marie of Denmark a few years ago, wearing her standby sparkler, the King Olav's Gift Tiara.  But, oh, the hats!
