Here's how you know someone is truly royal -- she can wear a hard hat and still look like she's posing for an official portrait! Work it, Daisy! (Except -- where's the champagne?)
Unfortunately, I like the hard hat better than the regular hat she chose for this outing...

I feel like this hat is a little ... confused. Is it going hunting, or is it the mother of the bride at a wedding in 1987?

Aww, look how much Princess Alexandra loves her big sis, Charlotte -- that's adorable!
Also adorable is Alex's mis-matched plaid headband and patterned shirt -- dare I say that we have a truly Mad Hatter in the making here???

Hey, everyone, look who finally made it to Copenhagen through the giant ash cloud!

It's Princess Máxima, who came with her husband, Willem-Alexander, and her mother-in-law, Queen Beatrix, on the royal train to be here for QMII's big birthday (hopefully we'll see Queen Bea at tonight's dinner).
I'm not sure about all this plaid, though -- do you think she had to pack quite quickly in all the melee? The hat looks to be some sort of turban-like contraption in the same fabric as the coat. I've seen worse, but I can't say I'm a big fan...
Update: Here's another angle on the plaid turban:

I've been sorely disappointed by the lack of hats so far during Prince Charles and Camilla's visit to Eastern Europe, and today it appears she really should have brought one along, because she had to improvise:

This crisis would have been averted, Your Royal Highness, had you only committed to some hattery beforehand! It's cold in Poland!

HM's out in Oxford today to celebrate the quincentenary of the university's Brasenose College. (Confession time: I totally had to look up exactly how many years a quincentenary marks -- it's 500. I blame it on the fact that I'm American, and nothing we have here is that old.)
And she's brought out a hat we've seen fairly frequently to do it -- but the photographs from this outing provide a much closer look at the hat itself. I really thought before that this hat was just made of your basic cloth material, but it looks from this angle like it's actually a leather-look fabric (or I suppose maybe actual leather -- she is a queen, after all, I think she can swing the expense). Veeery interesting. What do the rest of you make of this?

Little Lady Helen certainly looked bummed out at her cousin's wedding, didn't she? Maybe it's because she didn't get to be in the bridal party like her cousins Sarah and Edward (though in hindsight, she should be thankful she didn't get stuck wearing this!)? Or maybe it's because she's, you know, nine years old at a big, long, fancy royal wedding?
Either way, I love her little plaid hat. I think it's safe to say that the hat's plaid matches that of the dress, which we can see in color here:

Perfect for a little future fashionista at a '70s Windsor soiree! Love it!
