Cathedral of Ayios Nikolaos: HM Queen Anne-Marie of Greece

Posted on August 25th, 2010 by Ella  |  5 Comments »

The leopard print hat band rides again!  Constantine and Anne-Marie were out this morning in Spetses, apparently making a last-minute check at the cathedral (and avoiding the super-excited Greek press -- check out the mike on the right, LOL!).  Let's just hope this isn't the only hattery we're getting today!

Putting up the royal wedding live post ASAP -- get excited! :)

Porto Heli: HM Queen Anne-Marie of Greece

The former Greek royals have already arrived in Greece ahead of Prince Nik's big day next week, and what better way to let off some pre-wedding steam than with a little sailing jaunt?

A-M's casual hat here is perfect for a trip out on the yacht, but something about the leopard print band is just cracking me up.  It's as if she's reminding us that she may be an elegant (former) queen, but she's still Daisy's little sis! :)

1300th Anniversary of Ribe: HM The Queen of Denmark

Margrethe wore her prairie bonnet golf visor from the Vietnam state visit today to -- star in a new film version of Robin Hood?

No, just kidding -- Daisy and Henrik are out visiting a Danish town celebrating its 1300th anniversary today.  (1300th -- that's just incomprehensible to an American like me!  My ancestors were probably serfs farming in Europe back then!)

The hat is just as ridiculous as it was the last time, but it was far from the most ridiculous thing on this visit.  Case in point:

LOL!  Defend that castle, Henri!

(Thanks to lovely reader Kirsten for sending in info about this event!)

Belgian National Day - Military Parade: HRH The Duchess of Brabant

It's a hattery two-fer today for Mathilde -- and this year, the bold, bright color for the military parade is orange!  Love the little cropped jacket on Mathilde, and I'm thisclose to loving the wide-brimmed hat.  Make the crown a little lower -- it's reading "nineteenth-century midwestern American farmer" to me -- and heck, make the entire thing orange!  Go big or go home!

(Also -- that's Queen Fab over in the corner!  So disappointed at the lack of hattery this year, Lady F...)

Tisvildeleje Beach: HRH The Crown Princess of Denmark

Mary even looks good at the beach, wading in the water and trying to snap family photos of her kids -- life is so unfair!  I loooove this beach hat, though -- I wish I'd had one just like it during my recent holiday!

Royal Ascot 2010, Day 5: HRH Princess Beatrice of York

Okay, it may just be that I'm thoroughly infected with the happy wedding spirit, but even though this is clearly a beige forehead monster, I like it!  In fact, I may love it!  It looks great in Beatrice's hair, the curliques on the hat echo the curls in her hair, and it sets off nicely against her white/cream outfit.  I know.  I know.  I'll see my hat therapist right away on Monday morning! :)

And doesn't she look pleased as punch to be presenting a trophy?  Is this maybe the first time she's done that?

Royal Ascot 2010, Day 3: HRH The Countess of Wessex

So, clearly, this is what happened here: Sophie borrowed this hat from her niece, Zara, but then, when she put it on, there was a HAIR EXPLOSION!

So unfortunate.  Even Princess Haya can't keep a straight face!

Trooping the Colour 2010: The Lady Helen Taylor

Posted on June 12th, 2010 by Ella  |  9 Comments »

I really like the hat that Lady Helen wore for this year's balcony appearance, and I almost love it, except for one thing: she appears to have raided my grandmother's collection of dried flowers and seashells from the Gulf coast of Florida to fancy this thing up!  Too much frou, not enough chic.

ETA: The good people at Ralph Lauren e-mailed me to pass on the info that the dress and jacket Lady Helen is wearing here are from their line.  The more you know!

State Visit from Russia: HRH The Princess of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleberg

Hold up just a second, hatters ... we need to give the Danish Royal Scooby Gang here a chance to firm up their plans on how they're going to greet the Russian president...

Okay, I think they're prepared now.  Next up on the hattery list: the lovely Princess Benedikte!

Or, as the Getty caption people named her, the lovely "unidentified woman"!  (Reason #341422 that we need a mad hatter working with the international press corps.  Seriously.)

At least we know who dear Ben is, and I'd wager that probably most of you who read the blog regularly would have been able to guess her identity based on the straw hat alone!  It's a straw hat we've seen recently also, I believe; I'm pretty sure this is the same one she wore to Margrethe's birthday luncheon

The hat still reminds me of what my mother wears when she goes to the beach, but somehow, on Benedikte, it works!

Birthday Lunch at City Hall: HRH The Princess of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleberg

It's a bit of a "hide and seek" sort of photo, but here's Princess Benedikte on the left at her big sister's birthday luncheon, wearing a very Benedikte-type hat.  I checked the MH archives, and I don't think we've seen this exact straw hat with ribbon band from Benedikte, but it certainly resembles many others we've seen from Princess B!  It's sort of a trademark, really -- traditional, conservative, and ultimately pretty much okay.
