Royal Wedding: HRH Princess Carolina of Bourbon-Parma, Marchioness of Sala

It's been far too long since we've had royal wedding hattery fun on the blog, hasn't it?  Good thing the Dutch royals were happy to oblige us today!

The King of Bhutan's Wedding: HM The Queen of Bhutan

Posted on October 13th, 2011 by Ella  |  17 Comments »

Time for another royal wedding!  This time, it's in Bhutan -- King Jigme Khesar (that's him on the left) married Jetsun Pema, making her the country's queen.  (Her full title apparently translates to Dragon Queen -- how awesome is that?)  Congratulations to them!

This crown is just so cool.  I'm not terribly up on the sparkly headwear history of Bhutan, so if anyone knows whether it's an heirloom or a new piece, feel free to pipe up.  I'm just going to marvel at its gorgeousness in the meantime.

Thomas Sutton's Wedding: HRH The Duchess of Cambridge

Start your engines, hatters -- Katie Cambridge is out and about again, going red at yet another friend's wedding.  At first glance I thought she'd recycled her maple leaf fascinator (well, yesterday was the first day of autumn, after all), but no, this one's quite different.

Eh, overall, I'm a little underwhelmed.  Fascinators like these are a dime a dozen at a British wedding.  Thoughts?

Prince Georg Friedrich's Wedding: HI&RH The Princess of Prussia

Love, love, love the tiara that Sophie chose for her big day: this is the Isenburg Floral Tiara, a family piece that Sophie's sister Katharina also wore on her wedding day.  I love the unique shape of this one ... let's hope that: a) Georg Friedrich and Sophie get invited to future royal tiara events, and b) Sophie gets to wear this one.  Or, actually, maybe we should be hoping that she gets to bust out the Prussian jewels, if there are many left.  You know those are pretty fantastic.

Here's a full view of the wedding dress.  Not sure about the collar tailoring on the piece, but overall, I think she looks gorgeous:

Congrats to the Prussians! :)

Prince Georg Friedrich's Wedding: HH Duchess Donata of Oldenburg

First things first: how hard is Georg Friedrich working to get on Mad Hattery on his wedding day, huh?  I'm not sure we've ever seen such a stunning display of groom hattery on the blog.  Kudos, Georg.  (Though the top hat looks to be perhaps possibly one size too big.  Just saying.)

Anyway: the women of the groom's family.  He's being escorted into the church by his mother, Duchess Donata of Oldenburg (she remarried after Georg Friedrich's father died -- to her former brother-in-law.  But that's probably a story for another day), and his sister, Princess Cornelie-Cecile, which I think is really sweet.  But ... do we think that someone told Donata that the wedding was Christmas-themed?

Prince Georg Friedrich's Wedding: HRH The Duchess of Castro

We've got another heart-shaped wedding hat here from Camilla 2.0, but this one makes me want to bust out into a chorus of "Rule Britannia" for some odd reason.  It's reading so very Admiral Lord Nelson to me.

But: how much better does she look with a more natural hairstyle and makeup?  Really nice.  Two thumbs up, Lady Castro!

Prince Georg Friedrich's Wedding: HI&RH Archduchess Katharina of Austria

The gold-coated lady in the middle of this photo is Archduchess Katharina, the bride's sister.  We've not seen her on the blog before, but we're quite familiar with her brother-in-law and his wife.  Katharina's husband, Archduke Martin (that's him beside her), is Prince Lorenz of Belgium's younger brother.  Small royal world, eh?

As far as Katharina's hattery goes, I like the general idea, but would prefer it with fewer feathers and an updo.  Big hats need upswept hair.

Gotta love a lady who commits to a look from the top of her kokoshnik all the way to the tips of her shoes, don't you?
