Look who's made it back to Wimbledon after an absence of only 33 years!

... and she showed up in a lovely (though repeated) hat -- the Telegraph tells us this one's a Philip Somerville original -- just bright and fresh enough for a day of summer tennis in England! And you know, when you wear a great hat, your entire day just turns out a bit better, doesn't it? Observe the following...

I am not often moved to use this word, especially when describing royal hats, but I think it's the only one that truly applies here: fierce. Look at the jaunty angle on that thing! Way to go, Birgitte! Very appropriate to watch the epic Federer v. Roddick face-off on centre court.

Hooray! A new (almost) royal to add to our collection! (I get so excited when I get to add a new category for another lovely royal lady...)
This is Sophie Winkleman, a Cambridge-educated actress who also happens to be the fiancée of Lord Frederick Windsor, son of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent. She'll become Lady Frederick Windsor when the two tie the knot at Hampton Court in September (wedding hat extravaganza! Mark your calendars!).
Here she's taking in a spot of tennis with Freddie at Wimbledon. What better place to wear a big giant hat than a British sporting event in the summertime? I like this one, in its pretty neutral color, with (from what I can see) a complementary green -- perhaps floral? -- embellishment on the brim.
Overall, an excellent first entry into the hattery stakes, Sophie! Can't wait to see your wedding tiara!

Another July day at Wimbledon, another behatted royal in the Royal Box. Actually, it's the only behatted royal we've seen at all this year at The Championships: Princess Michael.
Of course, the only picture I've been able to find of her has the watermark right smack dab over both her hat and her face, but from what I can tell, we've got a white, wide-brimmed sun hat here in a traditional shape. Lovely -- especially paired with the blue! No more boring beige, thank God!

Not sure whether Marie Christine is just reacting negatively to something she sees on the court or having trouble balancing the hat on her head. Either way, like the hat shape, but am bothered by the fact that she seems to have caught the all-beige disease. Color, ladies! Color!
